It is true in the case of Mencius- one of the most famous philosophers in Chinese history. His mother had to consider a lot of factors when choosing a place to live but finally she realize her priority is to choose the best environment for her son.
It is told that Mencius' mother had to move three times until she could find the best place to live. The first time is her moving to a place that is next to a cemetery. Her son saw burials then he started to act as if he were in these situations. He started to play a game of burials. He cried, he acted as if he were in deep sadness. His mother decided to move to the market.
When she moved to a place near the market, her son started to act as if he had been a businessman for a long time. He became a showing off person, he lied about his journeys around the world. He learned tricks deceiving people. One more time, his mother had to move again. However, she had learned a lesson from the last two moving. This time she move to an apartment which is near a school.
Luckily, Mencius saw students who treated others with respect and honesty. He followed to behave well as a good person. Mencius’s mother was very pleased: “This is where I can raise my son!” Submerged in this environment, Mencius started studying and learning. With his mother’s help, Mencius learned the six classical arts and became one of the most well-known scholars
